Data Scientist
Tomsons is seeking a highly motivated and talented Data Scientist to join our team at our trading company, where we specialize in trading chemicals. As a Data Scientist, you will have a significant impact on the full workflow of data science, from collaborating with business stakeholders to define projects to the implementation of production models and custom visualizations. You will be responsible for extracting value from complex and messy data, exploring new datasets, and presenting complex data visually to a wide audience.
As a member of our highly agile Data Science team, you will have the opportunity to engage directly with traders, brokers, analysts, and researchers to understand the data that goes into internal models and the business problems that need to be solved. You will be responsible for standardizing and structuring data in clear, extensible, and easily understandable ways, applying machine learning models in novel ways, and reviewing the code and experimental design of other Data Scientists to ensure high-quality production.
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with strong communication skills, a keen sense for the art of the possible, and a desire to be a thought partner in a fast-growing team. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of coding best practices, 3-5+ years of industry experience working as a Data Scientist, and extensive experience exploring and extracting insights from heterogeneous multi-dimensional data sets. Fluency in Python (3) with the ability to write clean, modular, well-documented code in a collaborative development setting is essential.
Qualifications:
- Degree in a STEM subject with a solid understanding of coding best practices
- 3-5+ years of industry experience working as a Data Scientist with machine learning models applied to real-world data
- Extensive experience presenting complex data visually to a wide audience (plotly, bokeh, etc.)
- Extensive experience exploring and extracting insights from heterogeneous multi-dimensional data sets
- Fluency in Python (3) with the ability to write clean, modular, well-documented code in a collaborative development setting
- Advanced coursework in math, statistics, and machine learning preferred
- Demonstrable attention to detail
Desired Experience:
- Time series modeling (both machine-learning and econometric approaches, especially on small datasets)
- Application of a wide range of machine learning methodologies to real-life applications
- Enterprise software development (code design, code review, version control, etc.)
- Cloud-based data science workflows (on AWS in particular)
